FRIDA'S MARGARITA
Frida's Margarita
2oz Doña Vega mezcal (or you can substitute with blanco tequila)
.75 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz agave
1 inch of a cucumber, chopped
3 basil leaves
1 dash of angostura bitters
Mezsal Green Jalapeño Salt rim
Directions: Start by rimming half of your martini glass or coupe with Mezsal Green Jalapeño salt and add a large ice cube. In a shaker tin, muddle the chopped cucumber until it looks like a puree. Next, rip the basil leaves into pieces and place them into the tin. Add the remaining ingredients along with some ice and shake well. Strain into your glass and garnish with basil leaves and cucumber.
Notes: An ode to Frida Kahlo, and just like her, this drink has many layers. An abundance of flavors come alive in this cocktail yet none are too overpowering. Sweet, sour, herbaceous, bitter, earthy, vegetal, salty and optionally spicy. We all know by know how popular the spicy margarita is, but what I really like about having the Green Jalapeño salt is that you can choose with each sip if you want it spicy, or not, or maybe a little of both!
